Nutrition-Packed Snacks to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
These yummy snacks are perfect for pregnancy, birth, postpartum or parent life.
I’ve made all of these recipes many times over and they are gluten-free and can be pre-made and stored in the freezer. (Although I haven’t tried to freeze the brownies, they never last long enough)
They are also kid-approved!
And because constipation can make a very rude appearance during pregnancy and postpartum, eating them can help you poop!
1. Energy Balls
A great make-ahead snack to nourish you in labour, these are packed with protein.
Throw in some chia seeds to help ease constipation during pregnancy and postpartum. Then be sure to drink lots of water!
I’ve also made a school safe nut-free version for my daughter with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chocolate chips, and nut-free butter.

2. Brownies
One of my favourite brownie recipes!
Chocolate was a necessary food group for me postpartum. Chocolate is a food group, right?
I needed a little caffeine kick to keep me awake during those sleep deprived early days.
These fudgy brownies are made with tahini and zucchini:
- Tahini is packed with vitamins, minerals and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Zucchini is a great source of fiber, vitamin C and mood-elevating vitamin B6.
My daughter hates zucchini but she LOVES these!
Full transparency, I’ve never made the chocolate glaze. It looks yum making it just feels like too much work for my mom life. They are delicious without it!

3. Fudgy Black Bean Brownies
What’s not to love about a brownie? I love them so much, I’ve included two recipes!
Black beans are high in fiber (another food to help you poop!) and plant-based protein. They are also rich in antioxidants.

4. Granola
A delish topping for Greek yogurt with this 10-minute raspberry jam and for a quick and high protein breakfast or snack.
The raspberry jam can be premade and frozen (you can use frozen berries).
It also has chia seeds for those pregnancy and postpartum poops!
